We believe cycling is a positive force for good and an essential part of a sustainable future. We're committed to providing the cycling community with the excellent support you deserve through our attention to detail, clear and open communication and personal touch. Our intent is to reduce our impact on the environment through transport, recycling, and through the choice of the products we use and sell.

Our Story

Dan started Bike Man Dan in 2011, but his passion for cycling started in earnest in 2007 when he cycled from Calais to Gibraltar. Throughout this trip, Dan maintained his bike and when he returned was the "go to" friend for help fixing bikes. Friends soon started calling him Bike Man Dan, and encouraged him to set up a business. With a small loan from the Prince's Trust, Dan set up Bike Man Dan.

Dan started by visiting customers on his bike, but demand for his service meant he soon upgraded to a van and the business grew organically from there. Covid was a real turning point which saw unprecedented demand for cycle repairs as everyone found or rediscovered the joy of being out on two wheels. Dan soon developed route planning and an online booking system, taking advantage of technoloical know-how which enabled him to keep up with the increase in demand while keeping some time aside to actually work on bikes! In 2020, Dan took on an apprentice, Jordan, who has now graduated to the position of senior bike mechanic.

With this new growth we also needed a larger workspace, and in March 2022 we eventually found a perfect workshop space in the beautiful setting of Umberslade Estate - with the option to work outside surrounded by green fields and trees, it's much like the early days working at home! We're proud of the reputation we've earnt, and excited to keep building the business, creating more jobs and finding new ways to support cyclists in their brave and noble endeavour!

Our Customers

Our free collection and drop off service is especially helpful to those who don't have the time, means or ability to get their bike to a bike shop. Our lovely rural workshop, not far from Solihull and Earlswood is a great place to visit by bike or by car - we have plenty of parking, a coffee shop on site, as well as kids indoor and outdoor play areas.

We pride ourselves on our keen attention to detail and clear communication. If you're particular about how your bike is setup and notice the little things, then we're your mechanics!

We particularly specialise in road bikes but are highly skilled and experienced at repairing all types of bikes, including: MTB, hybrid, kid's bikes, recumbents, cargo bikes/trikes, electric bikes and even Tandems!

What we offer

We carry out high quality, bespoke bicycle repairs and servicing, rennovation, parts supply and fitting, free collection and drop off to your home or work, friendly advice and tuition, commercial and charity fleet servicing.

We also offer a range of other services for businesses, charities and councils. Some of the organisations we've worked with recently are the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, St Mary's Hospice, University of Birmingham and Sustrans.

How we operate

After getting your details and requirements we'll offer you a date for collection/on-site repair of your bike. Generally we do our collection/repair rounds during the evening after 5pm for your convenience. On the day of collection you'll be sent a 1hr time window. When we arrive we'll give the bike a quick look over in case of any major issues you haven't spotted. We should be able to give a ball-park estimate for repairs at this point.

The day after collection we'll spend 30-60 minutes triaging your bike, take photos and log the frame number etc and find a source for any parts we may not have in stock. You'll get a full condition report for you to keep, along with a full estimate for our recommended repairs. We'll only start work once we have your approval and keep in contact with any changes. You'll get a message as soon as the work's completed with an online payment link. Your bike will usually be returned 7 days after collection but we can be fairly flexible in many cases so just keep in touch!

You as the owner are the best source of information that may help us diagnose certain issues so we'll often ask for your input on current issues / noises / service history etc to ensure that your bike comes back without any niggles. In the rare case that it does, we'll come back at the nearest opportunity to rectify any work you've paid for, free of charge.

I can’t rate Dan highly enough. He’s a friendly and honest communicator, and he and Jordan set my bike up perfectly for a JOGLE trip in August. They serviced my bike impeccably beforehand and the attention to detail is easily the best I’ve come across in Birmingham to date. It’s refreshing to be able to speak to an excellent mechanic face to face, rather than have your bike handed back over a shop counter with some notes on the work done. It’s a business to be proud of for sure, and I’ll certainly be using Dan from here on.

Bike Man Dan is "The Man". Both he and his apprentice Jordan are very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I was sent a "Triage Report" and estimated cost less than 24 hours later. The online bill payment was straight forward, and the pick-up/drop-off service is great too. I was lucky to get my bike back the following day thanks to the nature of the problem and my location, but a week or so for more complex issues seems very reasonable. AMAZING service!!

Took my Boardman road bike to Dan’s workshop at Umberslade Farm for a service. Couldn’t be happier! Bike was ready when stated (next day) and all work carried out as discussed. Do you repair e-bikes?

Yes — we offer mechanical repairs to all types of e-bike. We are Bosch certified, which means we can diagnose and update Bosch motor, battery and electronic systems. For other e-bike brands, we cannot guarantee diagnosis or repair of electrical or motor faults, even if they appear while we have the bike — it's always worth giving us a call before booking so we can advise. Please ensure your battery is fully charged when you hand over your bike as we will need to test ride the bike and are not able to charge non-Bosch batteries at our workshop.

Do you service cargo bikes and e-cargo bikes?

Yes — we collect, service and repair cargo bikes and e-cargo bikes. As with all e-bikes, we are Bosch certified and can diagnose Bosch motor and electronics issues. How long has Bike Man Dan been in business?

Dan has been repairing bikes professionally since 2011, when he set up Bike Man Dan with a small startup loan from what was then the Prince's Trust. What started as a one-man operation visiting customers by bike has grown into a small team of mechanics, drivers and assistants at our workshop on the beautiful Umberslade Estate in Warwickshire.

What types of bikes do you repair?

We repair all types of bike — road, gravel, MTB, hybrid, kids, e-bike, recumbent, cargo, tandem and tricycles. We specialise in road/hybrid bikes but are highly experienced across the board, covering everything from a simple service or gear adjustment through to full rebuilds, suspension servicing and component upgrades. Every job starts with a triage report so you know exactly what's needed before any work begins.

How does the triage report work?

Every bike that comes into our workshop gets a full inspection before any work is carried out. We assess the bike, photograph any issues, and put together a detailed triage report with a written estimate. We only start work once you've reviewed and approved it — no surprises, no hidden costs.

How long does a bike repair take?

Our standard turnaround for servicing and home collection is one week. Individual jobs at the workshop can often be done quicker, and sometimes while you wait. This may vary depending on the condition of the bike and whether we need to source any parts. We'll always discuss your timing requirements and keep you updated throughout.

Do you offer a Home Collection service?

Yes — we'll collect your bike across Birmingham, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon, Redditch, Bromsgrove and South Warwickshire — including regular routes to Moseley, Kings Heath, Harborne, Edgbaston, Digbeth, Handsworth, Henley-in-Arden, Lapworth, Knowle and Dorridge and beyond! How much does a bike repair cost?

Our service prices are listed in the comparison table on our prices page. Every job also begins with a triage report and written estimate — so you'll know all the costs before any work starts.

Can I drop my bike off at the workshop?

Absolutely — we welcome drop-offs at our workshop on Umberslade Estate, Tanworth-in-Arden, Warwickshire, B94 5AE. There's no minimum spend for workshop drop-offs and there is a café and kids' play park on site. We're open Tuesday–Saturday, 10am–4pm, and it's always worth giving us a call on 01564 660652 or, even better, booking ahead online as the workshop has limited space. Please note there is an ANPR parking system in operation. As our customer, you do not need to pay for parking, but you must validate your parking in our system to avoid a charge.
