We believe cycling is a positive force for good and an essential part of a sustainable future. We're committed to providing the cycling community with the excellent support you deserve through our attention to detail, clear and open communication and personal touch. Our intent is to reduce our impact on the environment through transport, recycling, and through the choice of the products we use and sell.

Our Story

Dan started Bike Man Dan in 2011, but his passion for cycling started in earnest in 2007 when he cycled from Calais to Gibraltar. Throughout this trip, Dan maintained his bike and when he returned was the "go to" friend for help fixing bikes. Friends soon started calling him Bike Man Dan, and encouraged him to set up a business. With a small loan from the Prince's Trust, Dan set up Bike Man Dan.

Dan started by visiting customers on his bike, but demand for his service meant he soon upgraded to a van and the business grew organically from there. Covid was a real turning point which saw unprecedented demand for cycle repairs as everyone found or rediscovered the joy of being out on two wheels. Dan soon developed route planning and an online booking system, taking advantage of technoloical know-how which enabled him to keep up with the increase in demand while keeping some time aside to actually work on bikes! In 2020, Dan took on an apprentice, Jordan, who has now graduated to the position of senior bike mechanic.

With this new growth we also needed a larger workspace, and in March 2022 we eventually found a perfect workshop space in the beautiful setting of Umberslade Estate - with the option to work outside surrounded by green fields and trees, it's much like the early days working at home! We're proud of the reputation we've earnt, and excited to keep building the business, creating more jobs and finding new ways to support cyclists in their brave and noble endeavour!

Our Customers

Our free collection and drop off service is especially helpful to those who don't have the time, means or ability to get their bike to a bike shop. Our lovely rural workshop, not far from Solihull and Earlswood is a great place to visit by bike or by car - we have plenty of parking, a coffee shop on site, as well as kids indoor and outdoor play areas.

We pride ourselves on our keen attention to detail and clear communication. If you're particular about how your bike is setup and notice the little things, then we're your mechanics!

We particularly specialise in road bikes but are highly skilled and experienced at repairing all types of bikes, including: MTB, hybrid, kid's bikes, recumbents, cargo bikes/trikes, electric bikes and even Tandems!

What we offer

We carry out high quality, bespoke bicycle repairs and servicing, rennovation, parts supply and fitting, free collection and drop off to your home or work, friendly advice and tuition, commercial and charity fleet servicing.

We also offer a range of other services for businesses, charities and councils. Some of the organisations we've worked with recently are the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, St Mary's Hospice, University of Birmingham and Sustrans.

How we operate

After getting your details and requirements we'll offer you a date for collection/on-site repair of your bike. Generally we do our collection/repair rounds during the evening after 5pm for your convenience. On the day of collection you'll be sent a 1hr time window. When we arrive we'll give the bike a quick look over in case of any major issues you haven't spotted. We should be able to give a ball-park estimate for repairs at this point.

The day after collection we'll spend 30-60 minutes triaging your bike, take photos and log the frame number etc and find a source for any parts we may not have in stock. You'll get a full condition report for you to keep, along with a full estimate for our recommended repairs. We'll only start work once we have your approval and keep in contact with any changes. You'll get a message as soon as the work's completed with an online payment link. Your bike will usually be returned 7 days after collection but we can be fairly flexible in many cases so just keep in touch!

You as the owner are the best source of information that may help us diagnose certain issues so we'll often ask for your input on current issues / noises / service history etc to ensure that your bike comes back without any niggles. In the rare case that it does, we'll come back at the nearest opportunity to rectify any work you've paid for, free of charge.
